I've started digging a little because I'm curious and I run the software myself every day. I'm not sure it does look shady as I don't understand it fully and nobody seems to be providing any information here other than they don't know what the files are there for and that an antivirus said it was bad (which isn't always the case, as I do know about false positives being a thing). Not everything is some big conspiracy based upon money. Does it just mean sending data of any kind? Or is it a more specific and nefarious action? I just don’t know myself, I’m not a programmer or developer and I’m not going to pretend to understand it. I’m guessing that means it downloads map data from somewhere.Ĭould that explain the “calling home”or the high network traffic? As I don’t really even know what “calling home” means.

I do know that the virtual location part of iTools is web based, essentially running in a browser, as they can add or change features without releasing an actual update to the application. I don’t understand enough about any of this to make any claims about it, I literally replied to this post with what they told me, and asked if anybody with more knowledge of programming than me would like to dig into it.

Trust me, I don’t want to be promoting malware anymore than the next person.

I’m just sharing what they told me on discord trying to help. I’m not sponsored by anybody and certainly have never received a penny from iTools. Your anti virus is probably flagging those DLLs as infected due to this malware process using parts of those DLLs.Īnother possibility is that iTools is using an infected library version of SOUI or have built in some malware themselves. This dummy window process is not created by the SOUI library but uses likely parts of the SOUI library. Now SOUI_Dummy_WND process would be most likely a process of a Dummy Window using the SOUI. There is nothing that could be malware from what I have seen in that open source library. Soui-sys-resource.dll and soui.dll are clean according to most anti virus software right now.ĭigging into it, SOUI as I mentioned is an open source library that handles creation of UI. But here is what I can find.įirst off, SoUI is a UI open source UI library made in China. Ok, first going to say I'm not paid by or support iTools or even SoUI, not like what any of you guys will believe that.
